Rebel Wilson gives update on using weight loss drugs with honest body admission

The Pitch Perfect actress also explained how weight loss drugs had helped with her health journey

Rebel Wilson has shared a candid thought about her weight loss journey with fans.

The Pitch Perfect star, 46, started a new wellness initiative in 2020 and has let fans follow along with updates on social media.

Wilson previously said she knew her figure pigeonholed her in Hollywood, as she would often be cast as the ‘fat funny friend’ and never the ‘love interest’.

However, she was urged to lose weight to increase her chances of fertility if she wanted to start a family.

“I went to see a fertility doctor, and he was like, ‘You’d have a much better chance with fertility if you were healthier,’” she said on the Call Her Daddy podcast.

“It really hit me hard because I was living a fantastic bigger life.”

At her heaviest, she weighed around 100kg (220 pounds), but the comedian has previously revealed that she had lost 36 kg (80 pounds) during her fertility journey.

Speaking on Apple Fitness+’s Time to Walk, over a year into her wellness journey, Wilson said: “It just made me think: ‘OK I should take it a bit easier on myself, and just do it gently and do it lightly’. So in 2020, I lost weight but very, very gradually.

“Sometimes I kicked up things a notch with some workouts and went hard. But, the majority of the work for the year was just doing things like walking for an hour.”

In 2022, Wilson welcomed her first child with her now-wife Ramona Agruma via surrogate, Royce Lillian.

She candidly admitted that the demands of being a new mom meant she couldn’t go to the gym as often and had regained some of the weight.

In 2024, she shared that she’d regained 14kg (30 pounds), saying the stress of her full-on career was to blame.

She wrote in an Instagram post: “It makes me feel bad about myself…it shouldn’t…but it does.”

The Aussie star has now shared another message about her body image on Instagram Stories. The post, shared on March 31, consists of a photo of her wearing a sports bra and shorts and the caption: “I don’t think I’ll ever had a bikini body — that’s just not me.”

She added: “But my body has carried me through this life and I am so grateful for it!”

In the next slide, Wilson revealed she still does her daily steps and exercises regularly while eating healthily.

“I’m trying to get in my daily steps, do a Pilates class once or twice a week, some strength training when I can, eat as healthy as I can,” she wrote.

The The Deb director also commented on using GLP-1 medication to help her lose weight. “But let’s face it I love sweets so I need those GLP’s [sic] from time to time to give a little help.”

Wilson previously admitted to briefly trying Ozempic in a 2024 Sunday Times interview.

Originally, medications including semaglutide (sold under the names Ozempic and Wegovy) and tirzepatide (more commonly known as Mounjaro) were licensed for the treatment of diabetes.

They impact the way the pancreas produces insulin in the body, but also create a sensation of feeling full quicker when eating.

The drugs have now also become widely used for weight management, in addition to their original purpose, especially in Hollywood circles.

Wilson is currently expecting another child via surrogate. She said: “Being a working Mum, you just try your best! Shout out to everyone trying to be the healthiest versions of themselves while dealing with a LOT.”
