People Go Crazy on the Beach Over This Mom Breastfeeding Her Baby

A set of breastfeeding photos and a beach video featuring TikToker izlomax went viral after another parent filmed her without consent and posted it publicly. The headline-style framing (“click the photo/link”) helped spread it, but the real focus became the argument it triggered.

According to the post, the two moms and a four-year-old boy crossed paths at the beach several times, and nothing was said in the moment. Later, it became clear the other parent wanted the breastfeeding mom to “cover up,” implying it wasn’t appropriate for her son to see.

What people found especially hypocritical is that the same parent who objected to public breastfeeding had no problem recording it—then sharing the footage on social media. The clip appears to have been reposted (it looks like it may have a Snapchat-style text bar), and it was definitely shared on Facebook, where izlomax reportedly found it.

The Facebook caption claimed, “I’m not shaming women who breastfeed… I’m shaming the woman who [breastfed] in public with no respect to cover themselves up.” That wording—and the fact the mom was filmed while feeding her child—sparked the backlash, turning the story into a debate about public breastfeeding, privacy, and consent.

Somehow, it’s the 21st century, and there are still people in this world who are bothered by the act of breastfeeding a child in public. Moms are just out in the world trying to simultaneously exist and feed their babies, and people are mad about it—because they have nothing bigger to worry about? Good for them, I guess. But this story is absolutely infuriating, because not only was this lady mad about some public breastfeeding, but she covertly recorded it and then posted it online, and somehow still thinks a breastfeeding mom is the one in the wrong. What world are we living in?

Mom Isabele Lomax was on Facebook when she stumbled across the video, which actually showed her, at the beach the day before, breastfeeding her baby.

“I’m not shaming woman who breast feed their babies. I’m shaming the woman who breast feed in public with no respect to cover themselves up and just let their boobs hangout (nipple included) for everyone to see! COVER TF UP !!!” the video’s caption read. “I shouldn’t have to cover my son’s eyes and explain why your boobs are out, and quite frankly I don’t want to see it either. Have some respect!”

Now, if I was just scrolling Facebook and discovered that a stranger took a video of my boobs and posted it for the world to see, I’d be setting someone’s house on fire. But Lomax, a much better person than me, had this epic response: she posted a clapback video, topless while breastfeeding her baby,

“Imagine waking up, getting on Facebook, and seeing this video of yourself yesterday at the beach,” she says. “Not only did this woman walk past me multiple times with her son, you had every opportunity in the world to say something to me. Not that I would have cared or stopped what I was doing, but you instead choose to post a video of me and my child on Facebook, publicly for the world to see.”

Lomax makes the extremely valid point that everyone (including a baby) has the right to eat at the beach.

“What if you were told that the only way that you could eat at the beach is if you were covered up by a towel?” she asks.

She also points out something important about the woman who posted the video.

“Also, let it be known that her son is literally 4 years old,” Lomax says. “If you are sexualizing a breast to a 4-year-old, you’ve got your own set of issues.”

She ends her video with a very simple request: “Next time you see a mom breastfeeding her child in public, covered up or not, tell her how good of a job she’s doing.”

Or, you know, at a minimum, don’t take pictures or videos of her. We can’t even believe that needs to be said.
