Black Mirror gets ‘renewed’ for Season 7

The hit Netflix anthology series Black Mirror has reportedly been renewed for a brand new series.

According to Variety, the immensely-popular sci-fi series – created by Charlie Brooker – the return will mark the show’s seventh instalment.

Black Mirror reached the Top 10 in a staggering 92 countries when the latest series launched on the streaming service earlier this year.

It also spent four weeks in Netflix‘s global top 10 English-speaking TV.

The last series starred left viewers stunned by including some of the biggest names in Hollywood in the huge cast, including Frida actress Salma Hayek, Schitt’s Creek favourite Annie Murphy, Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul and Superbad legend Michael Cera.

Though no casting has been announced for the seventh series, Variety has reported that the show will go into production later this year.

Brooker will also reprise his integral role as the show’s creator, and executive producers Annabel Jones and Jessica Rhoades will return.

The ins and outs of the plot are also being kept under wraps for the time-being, as is the number of episodes that the series will feature.

Whilst season 6 consisted of five chilling episodes, the season prior only saw three episodes – starring the likes of Sherlock villain Andrew Scott and Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus – produced.

The dystopian hit has received critical-acclaim all over the world for predicting the future in depressingly, and often spookily accurate ways.

One episode of season 6 saw AI merged with a streaming service to co-operate real people’s lives, whilst another saw two astronauts trapped in space.
