While many tattoos are seen as art, they can sometimes be disconcerting to strangers when they become extreme. This was the situation a dad of seven, Richard Huff, faced when he covered most of his body in tattoos. Richard revealed that he gets a lot of criticism online and negative reactions from strangers in the real world. In an interview with Truly on YouTube on July 24, 2023, Richard and his wife, Marita, told the outlet how they have been judged for their tattoos.
Richard told Truly that he got his first tattoo when he was 17 and preparing to join the US Navy.
“It became an addiction,” he told Truly. “I started with my legs and worked my way up because then you could not have any on your arm or anywhere that could be seen at that point.”
The California native has his children’s names tattooed on his face and his daughter’s lips on his forehead. Richard also disclosed that he intends to get more tattoos.
“I approximately have 85% to 90% of my body covered, I probably have over 240 tattoos. I want to be 100% covered in tattoos probably within the next four years,” he shared.
Richard confessed to having “ink fever.” “I don’t know if it’s the pain or the artwork that you put on you but it just becomes fascinating when you’re able to do this,” he explained.
Marita is also heavily tattooed and intends to have more across her body, except her face.
“I think one day in the future I’ll catch up to Richard,” she said and added, “The face is off limits, this beautiful face can’t be covered.”
Meanwhile, Richard’s extreme looks have gotten him into trouble, including when the police stopped him once while looking for another man.

Richard is often thought to be a horrible dad for his tattoos and criticized for the age difference between him and Marita. He is 51, while Marita is 29. The couple has been together for several years and shares seven children: two boys from Richard’s previous relationship, two boys and a girl from Marita’s previous relationship, and twin boys they had together.
The kids don’t mind their dad’s tattoos even though their school friends think Richard looks “scary.”
Amyah, 9, said of her dad’s tattoos, “They say, ‘ah it’s a bit scary’ and I say ‘no my dad is not scary, he is good with tattoos’.”
One of Richard’s sons also shared that when his classmates ask, “Whose dad is that?” when they saw Richard, he proudly told them, “It’s mine.”
Marita also confessed that she was scared of Richard the first time she met him.
“I thought I was going to get robbed. I did judge Richard based on his looks at first, but as I got to know him a little bit, he is actually a big-hearted person,” she said.
Richard revealed that he participates in all his kids’ functions. He also disclosed that he and Marita get trolled online and read out some comments.
Someone asked Marita, “How did you choose a monster to be your child’s father?”
However, Richard doesn’t let the negative comments bother him. He said:
“If somebody can make negative comments like that, there’s something wrong with them themselves that they would have to judge somebody else.”
He added that his family’s happiness is all he cares about. Nonetheless, the dad of seven shared that he gets more positive reactions than negative ones in real life and believed that his tattoos made his children more open-minded.
