Harry and Meghan have been slammed for handing out food to survivors of the LA wildfires.
Justine Bateman, actress turned producer, has criticized the couple for what she has called a “photo op” while helping victims at an evacuation centre.
Taking to X, the 58-year-old wrote: “Meghan Markle and Harry are no better than ambulance chasers,”. “What a repulsive ‘photo op’ they achieved.”
“They are ‘touring the damage’?” she asked, referring to media footage she had reposted on the platform. “Are they politicians now? They don’t live here; they are tourists. Disaster Tourists.”
Video footage showed the couple in Pasadena on Friday talking to the city’s mayor, Vitor Gordo.
They have also opened their home to friends and family impacted by the fires, while donating clothes and children’s items.
Many social media users agreed with Bateman while others have spoken highly of the couple’s philanthropy.
One person wrote: ‘It’s 2025; leave them alone. I get you don’t like them for exposing family drama but, they are trying to help people out. You got nothing nice to say, keep it to yourself. I’m indifferent to these people but, let it rest already.’ while another said: ‘Because they have resources they can share. They’re community minded people.’
As of 12 January, there have been 16 fatalities reported.
