A fan of Taylor Swift has been killed in a stabbing after travelling to Rio to attend an Eras Tour concert.
Gabriel Milhomem Santos, 25, had travelled to see Swift perform at the Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday evening, with the concert eventually being postponed.
He was attacked while resting on the famous Copacabana Beach in the early hours of Sunday morning.
He was with friends when he was the victim of an attempted robbery. Two men have been arrested over the incident.
His family have confirmed that he will be laid to rest in his home town in Mato Gross do Sul in Western Brazil.
Santos had also worn a ‘Swifties’ friendship bracelet, and his family have said that he will be buried in the outfit that he had made for the concert.
He was described by loved ones as ‘cheerful, affectionate and extremely studious’.
They added: “Gabriel is an only child, he has always been by his mother’s side, even after he went to study in another state.”
This is the second tragedy to befall the Eras Tour during its stay in Rio de Janeiro.
Fan Ana Benevides, 23, died after fainting at the Nilton Santos stadium on Friday as temperatures soared to more than 100 degree Fahrenheit, or 37C.
Benevides was rushed to hospital where she is understood to have died following a cardiac arrest.
Her father paid tribute to her, saying: “I lost my only daughter, a happy and intelligent girl. She was about to graduate in Psychology in April, saving money. I have no words to express my pain. She left home to fulfill a dream and came back dead.”
He went on to raise questions about the distribution of water at the venue in the deadly heat.
He said: “I want it to be determined whether they were in fact prohibited from bringing water, whether there was negligence in providing assistance. I know that the singer was handing out water to her fans, and that is absurd for an event of this size.
“Nothing will bring my daughter back, but I hope that, if negligence is confirmed, someone will be punished, so that this doesn’t happen to anyone else.”
Writing on social media, Swift said: “I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show.
“I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this.
“There’s very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young.”
