The singing sensation that is Adam Lambert got his start on none other than “American Idol,” where he astonished judges and Americans with his unbelievable talent. Since then, Adam has become a household name, and it’s hard to imagine he was ever just another nervous youngster auditioning before Simon, Paula, and Randy. Since then, he’s made his own albums and has sold more than three million albums around the world, plus five million singles. For his song “Whataya Want from Me,” Adam received a Grammy Award nomination. “Trespassing,” his second album, peaked at number one in the U.S. charts on the Billboard 200.
It wasn’t just Americans and the American Idol judges who noticed Adam, however. His audition song for the show was “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and his sheer talent got the notice of the members of the band who made the song famous: Queen. Brian May, Queen’s guitarist, recruited Adam to sing as their frontman and Adam happily accepted. Adam says he was greatly inspired and influenced by Queen and Freddie Mercury, in particular as a singer and frontman. Since his Idol success, Adam has been touring some with Queen as the vocalist for Queen + Adam Lambert since 2011. Currently, Adam and Queen are performing “The Rhapsody Tour” in Australia and New Zealand.
Legendary Queen songs “We Are the Champions” and “We Will Rock You” are songs that nearly everyone in the world recognizes. “We Will Rock You” was recorded and released in 1977 and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2009. “We Are the Champions” was written by the late great Freddie Mercury and released in 1977. It’s widely considered to be one of the most recognizable anthems in rock and roll. In 2009, like “We Will Rock You,” “We Are the Champions” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
For Queen fans, it’s hard to imagine anyone but Freddie Mercury singing these iconic songs, but as a Queen fan, I can tell you that we’re very happy indeed with how Adam is handling his career with Queen. Well done, Adam. Watch this extraordinary video below.
