Tourist mocked after people translate matching tattoo she got with strangers

Social media users have collapsed in fits of laughter after a tourist detailed a story that saw her get a tattoo with strangers in a different language.

If you are going to get a tattoo, it is normally expected you will get something that means a lot to you or stands for something significant.

Well, a tourist who went to Morocco decided to say screw sensibility and now has a tattoo which has seen her ridiculed online.

The video, shared on TikTok by user caitdelphine has so far been viewed more than 1.7 million times since being posted in early December.

The in video caption reads: POV: “You get matching tattoos in Morocco with people you met in a hostel 10 days ago.”

The clip then showed someone using the Google translate camera feature that shows her Arabic tattoo reads mayonnaise. Yup, mayonnaise, not a profound ancient Arabic phrase but what some people dollop on their french fries.

If you were to get one word tattooed, you might expect someone to put a word that means something to them or even stereotypical words like love, power or strength. I can’t imagine most would consider getting a condiment though.

TikTok users even pointed out that the tattoo essentially writes out mayonnaise phonetically rather than just having the actual word.

“You’ll never forget it at the store again. Personal permanent shopping list,” one user joked.

“I speak Urdu but can read Arabic (because muslim girl things) and I’m cackling,” another amused user wrote.

The TikTok Google page even commented and got in on the joke and said: “True friendship is mayonnaise.”

The ridicule didn’t stop there however, as users on X, formerly known as Twitter, also saw a screengrab posted on some pages and couldn’t stop laughing.

“My dumba** was sitting here tryna read it in Arabic like what the hell is a ‘miyoneeze’,” one X user commented.

“Mayonnaise? What we eat? What kind of tatto is this,” wrote another.

“Why do people get tattoos of words in other languages, but don’t research on what they mean?,” another added.

However, according to the TikToker, who commented on her video, getting the word tattooed was intentional rather than a mistake.

Some users even saw the stunt as a great way to immortalize a good trip.

“I think this one is kinda based. Just getting a stupid random tattoo with a stranger you met in a hostel is actually the perfect use of tattoos. Arabic Mayonnaise will always be an amazing memory whenever you look at it. And f*** it, we all die anyway, so why not get a tattoo lol,” another X user wrote.
