Ben Affleck was a producer on an upcoming release starring Jennifer Lopez
Ben Affleck has spoken out about Jennifer Lopez after they worked on the same movie together.
If you are a fan of the Gone Girl star and Lopez and have been elbows deep into social media following the highs and lows of their romance, you’ll know Lopez certainly hasn’t held back when it comes to reflecting on the pair’s relationship.
But Affleck has taken a bit more of a different approach.
Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck in Los Angeles County Superior Court in August citing ‘irreconcilable differences’.
In an interview with comedian Nikki Glaser, Lopez didn’t hold back from diving into the nitty gritty of her and Affleck’s relationship, likening the breakdown of the marriage to when a house ‘blows up’.
“You’re standing there in the rubble going, ‘How do I not ever let that happen again?’ And then you start examining it little by little saying, ‘OK, I did this, this was my part in it, this was what I should have seen early on, this is what I didn’t look at.’ Those things are what really are the lessons,” she said.
Compared to Lopez, Affleck has remained fairly tight-lipped in publicly reflecting on the pair’s relationship, however, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he did offer a few choice words about his soon-to-be ex-wife.
Jennifer Lopez stars in ‘Unstoppable’ (Amazon MGM Studios)
Affleck was asked about upcoming biographical sports drama Unstoppable while on a call with Matt Damon and Cillian Murphy promoting Small Things Like These.
Affleck and Damon were two of the producers on Unstoppable and the film stars Jharrel Jerome, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña and Don Cheadle, alongside Lopez.
Affleck noted the movie is ‘very different’ to Small Things Like These but is ‘similarly rooted in the passion of really talented artists’.
Affleck continued: “And Billy Goldenberg and Jennifer and you know Don Cheadle and Jharrel and Bobby Cannavale – all of whom were really passionate about this film and then got to know Anthony and Judy and the relationship with them and the passion they had to bring this story to life.
“Again, it kind of speaks to a certain kind of thing I guess we’re drawn to which is, we really believe in the power of storytelling when the people involved in it are deeply, emotionally connected to the story.”
Honing in on his ex-partner’s performance in the movie specifically, Affleck said: “Jennifer if spectacular.”
Small Things Like These is currently showing in movie theaters and Unstoppable is set for release on Amazon Prime Video on January 16.
