As we get older, each and every birthday becomes more and more important. It means more than simply turning a year older, it is an indication that we have accomplished a lot in our life.
Recently, a man was turning 101 years of age but he was not having a very good birthday. On that particular day, nobody was standing with him and he wasn’t very happy.
The man’s name is Frank Williams and he was looking at the cake he bought for himself in order to celebrate such a milestone birthday. He was so lonely that he decided to take matters into his own hands and he picked up the phone.
Unfortunately, all of Frank’s friends had passed away over the years and he didn’t want to call his neighbors, because they did a lot for him otherwise. That is when he pushed three simple numbers on the telephone, 911.
When the emergency dispatch worker picked up the phone, they asked what the emergency was. Frank gave them his name and said that he was turning 101 years old that day.
He also explained the following to the dispatcher: “I am alone today, and I don’t want to be alone right now, you see. It’s my birthday and I’d like to celebrate it with someone. I realize that it’s not a genuine emergency, but I couldn’t think of anyone else to call.”
Before long, another voice was on the phone. It was a female police officer, Officer Woods. She let Frank know that she was coming with someone else to see him. It was more than a wellness visit, it was exactly what he needed.
