A female traveler shared a disturbing experience after receiving an unsolicited text message from a stranger who had seen her phone number on her luggage tag during a layover at the airport.
Content creator Kirsten, who did not reveal which airport the incident occurred at, explained that the unexpected message came through at 10:32 a.m. during her travel.
“Y’all, I’m at the airport and the creepiest thing just happened to me,” Kirsten said in a video she reposted in June. “I’m sitting there on my layover, and I get this text.”
The Texas resident shared a screenshot of the unsettling message from a man named Nate, who asked her to “give a guy a chance.” In the message, he wrote: “Kristen, my name is Nate.
I saw you and thought you were so beautiful, so I had to find a way to talk to you. I saw your number on your luggage tag and decided to text you. I promise this isn’t as weird as it seems! Give a guy a chance? 🙂”
Kirsten, whose name was misspelled in the message, didn’t respond to Nate but shared the creepy text with her 20,000 TikTok followers.
“Like, what? First of all, he spelled my name wrong. Second of all, if he wanted to talk to me so badly, why didn’t he come up and talk to me like a normal human being?” she questioned in the video.
She also expressed concerns that the stranger might have taken note of other personal details from her luggage tag. “I have no idea who this guy is. I didn’t notice anyone looking at me or anything, and I’m also extra weirded out because I have my address on my luggage tag, so he could potentially know where I live now,” she added.
It remains unclear if any further interaction occurred between Kirsten and Nate, and she has not disclosed whether he attempted to contact her again.
Her TikTok post prompted other women to share their own experiences of unwanted advances while traveling. One user commented, “Had the guy who checked me in and scanned my ticket at the gate EMAIL ME ASKING ME OUT before the flight took off.”
Another remarked, “That happens to me. Weird that they are stalking and reading our stuff.” One person even shared that a man tried to add her on Facebook after seeing her name on her ticket.
In contrast, a man in the comment section wrote, “I mean it’s a little creepy. But also romantic? Maybe?” This sparked further discussion, with many agreeing that it was far from romantic and highlighting privacy concerns.
Several commenters mentioned that they only put their email address on luggage tags to avoid such invasions of privacy. American Airlines flight attendant Ally Case also weighed in on the issue, advising travelers to conceal their personal details on luggage tags to prevent unwanted attention.
“Always, always, always flip your information on your luggage card backward,” she said in a TikTok video. “I cannot tell you how many people I see, on a daily basis, with their information displayed for anyone to see.”
