Tsagay’s struggle towards independence is handled by his new nose…

Two years ago, Tsagay was severely injured by a bear, losing his left eye, nose, and part of his face.

After a skin transplant in India, he returned to Bhutan but struggled with daily tasks and relied heavily on his family.

His right eye was scarred, making vision difficult, and chewing and swallowing were also a challenge.

At the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital, Tsagay connected with a volunteer surgical team from Interplast.

They began reconstructing his nose and assessed the need for future surgeries to improve his skin transplant and eye scarring.

Tsagay said, “Before the surgery, I needed a lot of help.

Now, I am more independent.” Though more procedures are needed, he feels hopeful.

“With Interplast, my treatment is improving, and I’m grateful for the chance to live a better life.”
