Billy Joel’s Triumphant Return and Epic Collaboration with Sting
In 2024, Billy Joel made a spectacular comeback with his first single in over a decade, “Turn the Lights Back On.” To enhance his live performance, Joel enlisted the help of rock legend Sting for a memorable collaboration on Joel’s lesser-known track “Big Man on Mulberry Street.” This electrifying partnership took place during their co-headlined show at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, on February 24, 2024.
Sting captivated the audience by stepping onto the stage in a sharply tailored silver suit and black fedora, perfectly setting the tone for the jazzy number. Trading lead vocals with Joel, Sting commanded the spotlight while Joel showcased his signature piano skills. Sting’s enthusiasm was palpable as he interacted with the band and displayed impressive dance moves, much to the delight of the crowd.
The audience was treated to an unforgettable evening, with Sting performing a 16-song set and Joel delivering an extensive 24-song set. Joel’s performance included many of his classic hits and a few surprising covers, such as The Rolling Stones’ “Start Me Up” and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” Not to be outdone, Sting invited rapper Shaggy on stage to join him for a duet of “Englishman in New York,” adding yet another exciting element to the night.
