Former professional boxer Carl Froch has been making headlines in the past couple of years thanks to his comments about the Earth being flat.
Way back when, before the many scientific advancements we now have, many people thought that the Earth was flat. However, thanks to years of space exploration, it’s been established without doubt that the Earth is, indeed, round, and much is known about our solar system.
However, there are still some people who disagree with the proof and claim that the world is flat (though, apparently, we as a species have never reached the ‘edge’ of it despite hundreds of years of exploration) – and Froch’s comments have often gone viral.
During an appearance on the Pound for Pound podcast with Jake Wood and Spencer Oliver in December, Froch, a former British boxer, claimed that “there’s no proof of the Earth’s curvature.”
The 46-year-old, who is well-known for his incredible knockout blows throughout his 12-year career, also claimed that NASA is “fake”, and alleged that they have fabricated images of outer space.
“The Earth is flat, one hundred percent,” he told Wood and Oliver. “There’s no proof of the Earth’s curvature and this fake space agency NASA use CGI images and every [single] one is different.
“I’m looking at them thinking, ‘Hang on a minute, they’re like cartoons.'”
Froch added that his mind would only be changed when he could get on a commercial space flight and see the roundness of the Earth himself.
“When someone like Richard Branson goes up there and starts doing chartered flights… and you can look back on Earth and see the Earth’s curvature, I’ll believe the Earth is a globe,” he added.
He doubled down on his theory in April, adding on the Macklin’s Take podcast: “Here’s the problem. I’ve tried to prove – and I challenge anybody listening to this – prove that the Earth is spherical. Prove that it’s round. Prove that it’s actually a globe.”
The host then replied: “All I know is that when Michael Conlan was boxing in Brisbane, we left LA and flew west and 12 hours later we were in Brisbane. So I don’t see how the world can possibly be flat.”
Froch then tried to explain his theory, replying: “I could get a piece of A4 paper, write down the center of the flat Earth – which is the North Pole – and write down the ice wall – which is right down the south side – all the way around the circumference of the flat Earth, and you would circumnavigate and you’d get from where you just said [LA] to where you just said [Brisbane] in the same flight path.”
Listeners soon took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Froch’s theory, commenting: “@Carl_Froch You have clearly been hit in the head a few times too often. As there is no other reason a human could possible be THIS stupid. I mean, seriously.”
Another added: “OK, so when you look into the night sky, you can see Saturn, the Moon, Sun, Venus and many stars are all round, but the earth is an exception as it’s flat? Come on mate.”
One wrote: “It’s difficult to take Froch serious anymore since he confessed to believing in Flat Earth theory. His assessment of the world isn’t accurate or realistic.”
Froch isn’t the only fighter that’s seemingly a flat Earther, as UFC
And it seems as though he’s not the only fighter who is a flat Earth-er, as UFC fighter Bryce Mitchell also expressed his views about the theory earlier last year, stating that he could prove that the Earth is two-dimensional.
Taking to his Instagram, he said: “It [the Earth] ain’t moving around at no 600-something miles-per-hour, spinning at no thousand-miles-an-hour and floating through the universe constantly, okay.”
He continued: “This Earth is flat, it’s fixed and the stars and stuff rotate around us.”
He also called on Joe Rogan to debate him on the topic, adding: “The sun rotates around us, and I can prove that, I would love to debate you Joe Rogan because I’m tired of you Joe Rogan making fun of flat Earth-ers!
“If you’re so confident, come on and debate me, buddy. I’m tired of this c*** you’re posting.”
