Machine Gun Kelly is changing his name

Machine Gun Kelly is planning to change his stage name going forward.

The stage name is pretty synonymous with the rapper at this point, however, looks like we might have to get used to calling him by a different name now.

The musician – whose real name is Colson Baker – received some feedback from fans suggesting that he change his name.

Their reasoning was that they felt that the name glorified firearms – hence he should just change it altogether.

At a recent show, he saw a sign which read ‘change your name’.

MGK then responded: “I have no idea what that sign means”.

The fans then explained: “We want you to change your name. We want you to take out the ‘Machine Gun’ so we don’t glorify machine guns.

“Just take out the ‘Machine Gun’.”

He then asked the audience what they thought of the suggestion, prompting them to start chanting ‘change your name’.

While the intent may be noble, the only problem is that taking out ‘machine gun’ would mean he would just be called ‘Kelly’.

And that’s not exactly a standout stage name, no offence to all the Kellys out there!

Fortunately, MGK appears to have found a compromise.

Rather than dropping the Machine Gun to just be Kelly, he is instead indicating that he may be dropping the Gun Kelly.

That would mean that his name would change to just ‘Machine’ – which works much better than ‘Kelly’ as a stage name.

In fact, he has already dropped some hints that he might be looking to switch things up a bit.

A post to Instagram was captioned by the artist just with the word ‘Machine’, with no Gun Kelly in sight.

Once may be a coincidence, but the same thing also happened in a post on Twitter – with the tweet’s caption just reading ‘Machine’.

While his name has yet to be updated on any of his social media profiles, his appearance at a GQ party might shed some more light.

Speaking to photographers at the event, he specifically requested just to be called ‘Machine’.

He said: “I have a question, instead of ‘Machine Gun’ can you just hit me with the ‘Machine’ from now on?”

So it’s certainly a possibility that we could be in a new era for the rapper – watch this space.
